Practical questions about the ATV day
The detail that does not fit on the tour page. If your question is not here, ask us on WhatsApp — you will get a straight answer from someone in Cusco, not a chatbot.
Before you book
Is there a minimum or maximum age?
Adults and adolescents ride their own machine. For younger children the right arrangement depends on their age and size, so message us on WhatsApp with their ages before booking and we will tell you honestly whether the day works for your family. We would rather lose the booking than put a child on an unsuitable machine at 5,000 m.
Do I need a driving licence?
No licence is required for the tour. What matters is the briefing, which everyone does, and riding at the group pace behind the guide.
How far ahead should I book?
Bookings close 24 hours before departure, but in high season — June to August, and around Inti Raymi — the ATVs go days ahead. If your Cusco dates are fixed, book as soon as you know them; cancelling 30 days out costs you nothing.
Can you pick me up from any hotel in Cusco?
We collect from hotels in and around the historic centre at no extra cost. If you are staying further out — San Jerónimo, Poroy, the Sacred Valley — tell us the address when you book and we will confirm whether we can reach you or arrange a meeting point.
I am travelling alone. Can I still join?
Yes. The shared departure is a mixed international group, so solo travelers join it at the standard rate with no single supplement. The private option is the one that needs a minimum of two people.
On the day
What happens if it rains?
Light rain does not stop the tour — you will get wet and the colours will be flatter, but the day runs. We only cancel for genuinely dangerous conditions: snowstorms, electrical storms or a closed road. If we cancel, you choose between a free reschedule and a full refund, and we decide early enough to tell you before pickup.
How fast do the ATVs go, and is the track technical?
This is not an off-road race. The route follows mountain tracks and rural roads at a steady group speed set by the guide, with gravel sections that simply need you to slow down. Riders who have never been on a quad manage it every week.
What if I start feeling the altitude at the top?
Tell the guide immediately — that is what they are there for. There is a first aid kit on board, and descending is the reliable cure, which on this tour means a short ride rather than hours of walking down. That is one of the real safety advantages of the ATV route.
Are there toilets along the way?
Yes — at the breakfast and lunch stop in Cusipata and basic facilities near the Rainbow Mountain entrance. Between those, you are on open high plateau, so use the stops.
Is there anywhere to leave a bag?
Your main luggage stays at your hotel. Bring only a small daypack; it travels in the support vehicle while you ride.
Groups and payment
We are a group of ten. How does the price work?
Quads are priced per machine, so the arithmetic is yours to optimise: ten travelers on five two-up quads is $650, while ten riders on ten separate quads is $700. Mix the two freely — the booking form prices every combination live. Above 14 travelers message us and we will arrange a second departure.
Can you run a departure just for our group?
That is the private option: $260 per person for 2 to 6 travelers, with your own guide and ATVs and your own pace. For larger private groups, message us and we will quote it properly.
Is paying online safe?
Card payments run through Izipay, a Peruvian payment processor, over an SSL-encrypted connection. Your card number goes to them, never to us, and never into an email or a WhatsApp message. If anyone ever asks you for card details over chat, it is not us.
Can I pay the balance in cash, and in which currency?
Yes — pay the 20% deposit online and settle the rest when we collect you. Bring US dollars or Peruvian soles; we will confirm the exact balance in your booking email.
Will I get an invoice or receipt?
Yes. Every booking gets a confirmation with the amount paid, and we can issue a formal Peruvian invoice (factura or boleta) under Inka's Network Adventure E.I.R.L., RUC 20527595011 — just ask when you book.
Still deciding between the ATV and the hike?
We compare the two routes side by side on the home page, and the full day is laid out hour by hour on the Rainbow Mountain ATV tour page.
